Sympathy bible verses can offer so much comfort and hope to the grieving. When searching for just the right Bible verse you may want to check different translations, one version may express what you are wanting to say better.

Write out the full verse instead of just giving the reference. The actual words of scripture written in a condolence card can be very uplifting to a grieving Christian.

Funeral bible verses can be used for memorial and funeral readings or on funeral programs. Two of the most classic scriptures used for funerals are Psalm 23 and The Lord’s Prayer, found in Matthew 6:9-13. I haven’t written out the full verses for these two passages. They can be looked up using the Bible Verses search tool.

Psalm 18:2

The Lord is my rock,
and my fortress, and my deliverer;
my God, my strength, in whom I take refuge;
my shield, and the horn of my salvation,
and my high tower.
-Psalm 18:2

Psalm 73:26

My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart,
and my portion for ever.  -Psalm 73:26

the Lord my God illumines my darkness.  -Psalm 18:28

and I will give you rest.  -Matthew 11:28

2 Corinthians 12:9

And He has said to me,
”My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness”
Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses,

Psalm 61:2

 Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  -Psalm 61:2

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me… -Psalm 23

John 14:1-3

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.  -John 14:1-3

Psalm 34:18

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.  -Psalm 34:18
